Mandatory rainwater tank and energy efficient hot water system legislation repealed

As of February 2013 the QLD Government has repealed legislation mandating the installation of rainwater tanks and energy efficient hot water systems in new builds.

What does this mean for your project? Unless conditioned or required by a stormwater management strategy:

  • Rainwater tanks are no longer required to be installed; and
  • Hot water systems are no longer required to be energy efficient, meaning you’re free to choose what type works best for you.

Local governments are yet to decide whether they will choose to opt-in or out to water saving and energy efficiency requirements, hence we will continue to monitor any changes and keep you up to date.
